Optimise Your Gaming PC for FPS
Achieving smooth, stutter-free PC gaming does not require questionable "PC cleaner" software. In fact, third-party optimizers often harm performance. Here are legitimate, tested tweaks that actually boost framerates.
High average FPS means nothing if your 1% frametime lows fluctuate wildly. Consistency and low latency create a noticeably smoother gameplay experience than inflated peak FPS.
Essential System Tweaks
Enable Windows Game Mode
Ensure Settings > Gaming > Game Mode is switched ON. In modern Windows 10/11, this prioritizes GPU and CPU resource allocation to the foreground game process and stops background Windows updates.
Turn On Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS)
Under Display Settings > Graphics Settings, toggle Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling on. This offloads VRAM scheduling from the CPU to the GPU, reducing input latency.
Clean Install Graphics Drivers with DDU
If you suffer from micro-stutters after driver updates, use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode to wipe remnants of old drivers before installing the latest WHQL release.
Cap Frame Rates Just Below Refresh Rate
If you use a G-Sync or FreeSync monitor (e.g. 144Hz), cap your framerate in the GPU control panel to 141 FPS (3 FPS below refresh rate). This prevents V-Sync input lag spikes while eliminating screen tearing.
